In 2020-2021 I did not have access to my large printing press. Hence I worked in a smaller format which suited me well in a new experimental phase of my monotype work. These works are all in the format 38 x 48 cm (horizontal or vertical). I've called them Etudes. You can treat yourself and buy them directly from me, at € 95 a piece. As each monotype is a one-of-a-kind original artwork, they are also the perfect gift.
My digital designs are related to my monotype Etudes. They take their origin in the process of making a monotype, but they are never exactly the same as the final print. They actually stem from a state of my plate preceding the actual printing process, and are like variations on a theme. These VIRTUAL STATES of my monotype printing find their way in a variety of digital designs and products.
I dabbled in linogravure at age 12 with teacher and artist Goulven Elies in Mexico. Later, at the School for Visual Arts in New York I developed a real passion for printmaking. Since 2007 I've been making one-of-a-kind monotypes. The foto above is called De Bibliotheek / The Library, a series of 16 monotypes featured in Tracing Places, a group exhibition in Haarlem, the Netherlands.
I opened a storefront atelier in Haarlem in 2007, then moved to France in 2009. A lot of work has accumulated since in the drawers of my print cabinets. A real treasure chest! They are monotypes, one-of-a-kind works, varying in size and all manually printed on archival papers. From this collection I will select and feature one work every month. Curious?
